Report Cards YayayayayYAyayay!1 oneoneones111!!!

"I hope that this year's IBHL Literature class has been both challenging and rewarding for you. ..."
It's been challenging, not very rewarding though :(
"... Now it's time for a summer break! ..."
Yes it is :) Finally :) :) :)
"... Enjoy it, ..."
I will, thank you.
"... and if you would like to do some summer reading, pick up a copy of Hampton Road. ..."
Okay what's going on?
"You can purchase it through amazon.com or any of your large booksellers. Then you have the pleasure of writing a review of it, and then publishing the review at the amazon.com or Barnes and Noble site. An added advantage is that you have the author around, yours truly, who would be honored to answer any questions you might have about the novel.

Have a great summer!"

Okay wonderful, an advertisement for his book in my report card. Is this unprofessional? Oh well whatever I don't care. The comment almost sounded personalized at first, then I found out another guy got the exact same comment as this one. I couldn't help but feel a bit cheated.

The recommendation of summer reading is a bit weird given the recommendation. :/
Are book sales not going the way you want it?

I was curious so I went ahead and tried to find this book on the internet. What was weird was when i typed in "Hampton Road" in the search field at amazon, I couldn't find the book! I had to type in "segedy" before it popped up :) When you don't the title, you look up the author, how uncommon is that?

"Amazon.com Sales Rank: #2,906,548 in Books" okay no wonder the search wasn't helpful.

I will have the pleasure of writing a review when I recieve my copy. I'll be third on the list of reviews, after the two other TAS students*.

A review from B&N

A good read on the publisher PublishAmerica (their website is down) http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn/A25187-2005Jan20

[Quote]But it's very unlikely to lead to a career. Once in a great while, a highly entrepreneurial author gets lucky: His self-published book comes to the attention of a bigger fish. A recent example: Suzanne Hansen set up a company to print and distribute her You'll Never Nanny in This Town Again! When she and her sister had managed to peddle 4,000 copies -- a big hit in these circles -- they sent mass e-mails to publishers and agents. Crown acquired the book last month for what Hansen's agent calls "a good six figures."

Hansen couldn't enjoy the same resale triumph if she'd teamed up with PublishAmerica; its authors sign over publishing rights for seven years. Instead, the company would have negotiated the purchase and kept half the proceeds. In any case, a success story such as Hansen's is rare. (It helps that her Hollywood nanny saga drops celebrity names like Streisand and Ovitz).
